Privacy Policy

HomeAI ("the App") is published by Philippe B. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information. The short version: your data stays on your device. The App does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server operated by us.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not operate any backend server, user account system, or analytics platform. We do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Crash reports or diagnostics
2. Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device:
- API keys — for AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.) and text-to-speech services. Stored in the iOS Keychain (encrypted, hardware-backed).
- Home Assistant credentials — your server URL and long-lived access token. Stored in the iOS Keychain.
- Chat history — your conversations with the assistant. Stored in on-device storage only and never leaves your device.
- App settings — language preference, home name, selected AI provider, voice settings, and custom persona. Stored in iCloud Key-Value Storage (see Section 3 below).
You can delete all stored data at any time using the "Reset to Factory Settings" option in the App's settings screen.
3. iCloud Synchronisation
App settings (Home Assistant server URL, selected AI provider, language, voice preferences, and custom persona) are stored in Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage. This means:
- Settings sync automatically across all your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account.
- Settings are restored if you delete and reinstall the App.
- This data is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy policy. We do not have access to your iCloud storage.
Sensitive credentials (API keys and your Home Assistant token) are never synced via iCloud — they remain in the device Keychain only.
4. Third-Party Services
When you use the App, your data is transmitted directly from your device to the third-party services you configure. The App acts as a client — it does not proxy, log, or intercept this data.
- AI Providers — When you send a message, the conversation text is sent to the AI provider you selected (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Kimi, or MiniMax) for processing. Each provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle this data.
- Home Assistant — Device state queries and control commands are sent directly to the Home Assistant server URL you configure. This is typically a server on your local network or your own remote server.
- Text-to-Speech — If you use a network-based TTS engine (OpenAI, Inworld, or Gemini), the AI's response text is sent to that provider to generate audio. If you use the built-in iOS voice, no network request is made.
- Speech-to-Text (Whisper) — If you configure an OpenAI API key for Whisper, recorded audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription. If you do not configure this, the App uses on-device speech recognition.
- Weather — The App uses Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free and open-source weather API. Your approximate location coordinates are sent to retrieve weather data. No personal identifier is included in these requests.
5. Location Data
The App requests location access solely to provide weather information. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch local weather data. Location data is not stored, logged, or transmitted to any other service.
6. Apple Watch
The companion watchOS app receives settings (Home Assistant URL, API keys, language) from the iPhone app via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This transfer happens directly between your paired devices over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. No data passes through external servers.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
